Choice Over Habits
Life is like a roller coaster ride with ups and downs, filled with good, bad, and plain uninteresting times. We naturally want to keep the good and let the bad and boring times go. This can cause us to push away the difficult times, improve upon the boring parts of our life, or hold onto the good times.
We have little control over what comes our way, and it is full of good and bad. What we do have control over is our reactions to what is happening now and how we address issues and stories of the past, and our future worries, wishes, and desires. If we constantly give our attention to difficult events from the past or worry about what may happen in the future, they become who we are.
Awareness and understanding of what is happening in the present moment is a key to inner happiness. If we can see our options and not react automatically, we have control over who we are. Choice over automatic reactions can improve our happiness, peace, and contentment.
