Awareness Practice – Watch What is Happening

Throughout the day give yourself a minute here and there to watch what is happening around you. It is important to watch how you are reacting to what is happening. Something most of us do not think about is to watch how those around us are doing. This could be true with the animals around too. Do they look happy, sad, worried, angry, frustrated? Do they have energy or are they tired and moving slowly? Are they moving in an uncomfortable way or do they look comfortable in their body? Is what is coming out of their mouths positive or negative? Pay attention to what is around you and how you react. If they are having a difficult day, is it wearing off on you? If someone is having a good day, are they helping your day improve?

Watch your reactions to your thoughts, interpersonal relationships, and events. Look at where your emotions are taking you and how different parts of your body feel. If you continue to react a certain way, it can quickly become a habit. You can be actively watching your reactions and then off you go with your habits. Habits are strong and can cause great harm. Learning to watch and see your different options and letting go of your bad habits can make room for good habits that will make a big difference in your happiness and success. With a little work you can take control over your emotions, reactions, and habits. You do not need to allow your mind total control; you can see your choices and decide on the best path.
