Automatic Reactions Versus Mindfulness

Our feelings, thoughts, and reactions could be like watching a movie. We are totally into it and we feel like we are a part of it. This is similar to when we get stressed. Our emotions become strong. We are not paying attention to what is truly happening. We are kind of like in a bad movie to some degree. We believe our thoughts and reactions are completely true. We are setting ourselves up for difficulties if we cannot be in the moment and see and understand what is truly happening right now. If we rely solely on our emotions or our automatic reactions and habits, we could be completely wrong in how we react. It can be helpful to give yourself a few extra seconds to look and see your different options. If you have the time, focus on your breath and let yourself calm down, and then take another look at your situation before acting.
