Present Moment Mindfulness

The present moment is always what is happening right now, but much of the time our mind is not in the moment. More than likely our mind is off on a totally different issue. We may be talking to a co-worker about a specific topic, but our mind is thinking about the weekend, what to eat for dinner, what to do after work, or a thousand other issues that are not related to what is happening right now. The same goes for everyday tasks, we tend to just do them. Our bodies are in the present moment, such as taking a shower, washing dishes, vacuuming, driving the car, or riding public transportation. Because we have done these tasks so many times our minds are usually in a completely different place, which will likely be in the past or the future.

We can address issues from the past and concerns about the future in a more positive manner. If we can just see our mental stories for what they are, and if they are not needed or helpful, we can just let them go.
